Fill automates composite production
Highly efficient process technologies for lightweight composite construction in the (wind) energy, automotive, and aerospace sectors presented at Composites 2014 in Düsseldorf.
Laying processes for dry knits, stack production lines, the automation of ultrasonic applications, RTM systems with vertical injection molding presses and CNC robot systems increase productivity and process reliability. At the international showcase exhibition, Composites Europe 2014, from 7 to 9 October in Düsseldorf, Fill Machine Engineering presented the latest developments in automation of composite processes with great success.
Düsseldorf/Gurten, 15 October 2014 – The industrial processing of fiber-reinforced composites is one of the decisive competitive factors for manufacturing companies. Success depends on yield, process reliability, and quality. "Our latest developments in the field of process automation are dominated by substantial financial benefits. The added value for the customer is obvious. A great many visitors saw this for themselves at Composites 2014," reports Wilhelm Rupertsberger, Manager of the Plastics Competence Center at Fill.

The Austrian special machine builder and systems integrator for lightweight composite construction ensures cost-effectiveness and quality with automation along the whole production chain. New standards in productivity are being achieved. At the same time, Fill can draw on decades of expertise and synergies from its in-house Metal & Plastics and Profile Technology Competence Centers.
New laying processes, stack spot welding and ultrasonic applications
Textile handling of prepregs on Fill high-speed systems opens up new possibilities in terms of speed and precision. In doing so, dry materials up to a width of 3000 mm are laid without creasing, at high speed. After laying the stack superstructure, the layers need to be joined. In the new technology developed by Fill together with Ravensburg-Weingarten University and Alba Tooling & Engineering GmbH, the layers are joined by means of electrical energy, thereby utilizing the conductivity of carbon (stack spot welding). A milestone in industrial production in terms of efficiency and precision. In various inspection processes, Fill employs ultrasound technology (pulse/echo, through-transmission), thereby inspecting carbon parts highly effectively for potential faults.
